Services

BAHS provides a wide range of health services to meet the needs of the local Aboriginal community within the Bourke Shire. Our emphasis is on Indigenous Health, but everyone is welcome.
Staff are trained in a variety of programs under a Primary Health Care model, which include:-

  • GP, 4.5 days per week
  • Female Obstetric GP, 1 day per week
  • Registered Nurse, three days per week (Healthy for Life)
  • Practice Nurse
  • Aboriginal Health Workers (Healthy for Life, Public Health, Family Domestic Violence, Sexual Health)
  • Dental
  • Medical Reception
  • Eye Health
  • Dietician / Exercise Physiology
  • Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Counselling
  • Youth Worker with a focus on AOD
  • Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Counselling
  • Access Coordination and Transport services

BAHS also offers Visiting Specialist Services in the following areas:-

  • Renal
  • Endocrinology
  • Cardiology

Privacy
All services are provided with the utmost confidentiality.  BAHS abides by the National Privacy Principles and your medical record is maintained securely and access is limited to essential staff only. 

Current personal details
If it has been awhile since you have attended BAHS, we may need to update your details on our computer system.  If you have moved or any personal information has changed, please take the time at your next visit to provide Reception Staff with your updated details so that your medical record remains current.

Reminder & Recall System
BAHS makes every attempt to send a reminder to clients offering you preventative health services appropriate to your care. Please assist by advising Reception if you cannot keep your appointment and every effort will be made to reschedule to a mutually convenient time.
 
Fees and billing arrangements
All consultations are bulk-billed and Veterans will be required to sign the service voucher. There is potential for out of pocket expenses/cost to a patient when referred for consultation with medical specialists or other health services.

Your Rights
If you have a problem, please let us know.  We prefer any complaints in writing, to allow us to investigate your concerns.  Alternatively, you may wish to talk to the CEO or one of the Managers.  A suggestion / complaints box is located in reception, or you can send to the CEO at the address stated in the Contacts tab, at the top of this web page.
We will take your concerns, suggestions and complaints seriously. However, if you wish to take the matter further and feel that you need to discuss the matter outside of BAHS, there are several options available including the Medical Registration Board, Australian Medical Association (AMA) or Health Care Complaints Commission at:
